Snapshot Stop #1 | Above and below the High Bridge

Topping the list, literally, is our gorgeous High Bridge. Although the entire trail is scenic, the bridge itself offers the best opportunities for pictures with rolling views of Cumberland and Prince Edward County stretching for miles in either direction. If you’re walking, you can choose between the River Road and Camp Paradise parking areas, while the bike ride from downtown Farmville also offers some gorgeous views as well. Bikes of all types are available for rent from The Outdoor Adventure Store. Before you leave, make sure to head below the bridge for an up-close shot at the original brick girders and the beautiful swirling Appomattox River.

Love is in the air when you stroll (or bike) through the gorgeous downtown plaza and snap a shot of one of Farmville’s two iconic LOVE signs. This one is definitely a crowd favorite and captures historic Green Front Furniture as well as the High Bridge Train in the background. The famous brick tobacco warehouses will definitely have you yearning to step inside and take a peek. There’s always new treasure to explore among their collection of rugs, furniture, and accessories.

Snapshot Stop # 3 | LOVE sign at Appomattox River Company
Just down the street and across the river at Appomattox River Company, come discover our second LOVE sign and third snapshot stop. A wonder in upcycling, this colorful creation is made from discarded kayaks. The folks at Appomattox River Company are incredibly knowledgeable in all things water and kayak related so make sure to take a look at their selection of kayaks or ask any questions you may have while you’re there.

Ready to put the phone or camera down for a minute and enjoy a cool glass of wine, cider or beer? Step into the Virginia Tasting Cellar. A truly unique experience featuring wineries from around the state of Virginia, you can choose from a full tasting or just a glass of your choice. The patio is the perfect summer escape and an Instagrammer’s dream, so you’ll probably be itching to take some more photos here. With a huge swing constructed from a crate, chairs, and tables that back up to the river’s edge and a huge fireplace for cool evenings, you’re sure to find just the spot for that perfect selfie.

Snapshot stop # 5 | Longwood’s campus

Longwood University functions as the heart of town in many ways. With it’s mellowed brick buildings, balance of traditional and modern design, and tumbling fountains, there’s no shortage of beautiful spots to get a photo. The colonnades that run along High Street opposite of Hotel Weyanoke are particularly lovely, as well as a stunning statue of Joan of Arc located at the end of Brock Commons.

Snapshot stop # 6 | Farmville’s painted murals

We know this is more than one stop but bear with us. In the last few years, Farmville has really been expressing itself via its buildings and that means beautiful spots for jaw-dropping photos. A few of our can’t miss spots include the small but brilliant butterfly on Main Street on the side of The Attic Pawn Shop building directly facing Farmville Baptist Church. You’ll need a friend for this one because it’s selfie-central but so worth it. Equally colorful and fun is the “Greetings from Farmville” mural on the side of the former j.ferguson art gallery building. And last, but not least on our list is the interfaith mural, which can be found by following the High Bridge Trail directly through Farmville on the left just before Three Roads Brewing.

Snapshot stop # 7 | Sandy River Reservoir
For the last stop, we take you just outside of town to Sandy River Reservoir. This stunning body of water is a perfect place to kayak, paddleboard, fish, and of course, take that perfect sunset or sunrise picture. There’s a public boat landing but Sandy River Outdoor Adventures, just minutes down the road, also offers any of those items to rent if you want to capture some big sky views from the center of the water.
