Run Around: Can’t Miss Races in Farmville

Farmville’s a town that’s on the run with something for “run-for-fun” folks and serious competitors alike.

The 7th Annual High Bridge Half Marathon and 5K will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019. This popular race will feature spirit groups and music to boost runner’s motivation as they take to the crushed, packed gravel surface of High Bridge Trail for this out and back run.

Farmville’s historic High Bridge Trail State Park’s well-packed limestone is also the location for four scheduled running events geared toward serious competitors. There’s a Night Train 50K in June, a High Bridge Ultra 50K/30K in October, and the Freight Train 100K/50K in December. Part of the Virginia State Park Adventure Series, all three races offer a unique way to experience one of Farmville’s most-visited state parks. Also on High Bridge Trail is the Heart of Virginia 10K/5K Run/Walk, Farmville’s popular kick-off to the Heart of Virginia Festival in May.

There’s more for casual runners with two events in September: the Ralph M. Hamlett Memorial 5K Run/Walk in Pamplin and the Hampden-Sydney family Weekend 5K. Both welcome runners and walkers of all abilities.

5k Fun Run

Finishing up the year in December are the Bear Creek State Park (Cumberland) 10-Mile Trail Run and the Farmville Jingle Bell Run/Walk through neighborhoods surrounding Longwood University.
