Bonus? You’ll have a holiday gift basket to greet you filled with some of Farmville’s finest: a handmade pottery mug and mosaic notecards from Mainly Clay as well as a High Bridge keepsake Christmas ornament from the Sleeping Bee.

Small-Town Christmas Shopping

Uptown Coffee Cafe

After you check into your cottage, head downtown to use your $25 gift card at the Uptown Coffee Cafe. This local gathering place offers coffee and tea, signature sandwiches, soups and salads, and all kinds of goodies. Lunchtime? Grab a harvest apple salad and a bowl of the soup of the day. Just need a pick-me-up? A peppermint mocha (and a chocolate chip muffin) should give you the energy you’ll need for your Main Street stroll.

As you sip your coffee, do a little window shopping and peruse the Christmas decorations. Then, do a little actual shopping! Grab a beautiful gift at Penelope or purchase holiday cards at the Longwood Center for Visual Arts. Want a curated, old-fashioned holiday shopping experience? Schedule a one-hour appointment at the Red Door 104 gallery. (Saturday’s last appointment is at 1 p.m., so make sure to register early!) What better way to check off your Christmas list than with handcrafted gifts from more than 25 local artisans? Not to mention you can have a glass of wine while you shop (and have your purchases gift wrapped)!

As the sun starts to set, it’s time to get into the Christmas state of mind! Head to the downtown plaza to take small-town Christmas selfies in front of Farmville’s festive, twinking, 26-foot Norway spruce. Then, choose between Charley’s Waterfront Cafe and the Virginia Tasting Cellar for a date night for two (covered by our Small-Town Christmas Giveaway of course)! Cozy up next to the fire on the patio overlooking the Appomattox River or enjoy the warm pub atmosphere of Charley’s. You can’t go wrong! With either choice, you’ll receive one of two entree options, a dessert, and a bottle of wine.

Farmville Christmas Lights

What’s better than a lights show? Before heading back to your cottage, tour the town to take in our annual Battle of the Bulbs. Follow the map to wind through Farmville’s neighborhoods and businesses for amazing classy and tacky light displays. Make sure that you don’t miss the winners announced on December 14 by the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce. Was your favorite a top pick?

Small-Town Sunday Morning

The Manor Cottages

Enjoy sleeping in on Sunday? Brew some coffee to sip in your brand new Mainly Clay pottery mug. Warm enough to wrap up on the veranda? Take in the winter views on the 1,000-acre estate al fresco. Too cold? No worries! You’ll be able to lose yourself in the rolling hills from a window seat just as easily.

Early riser? Book a tee time for a round of golf before you leave. The Manor Golf Course opens at 8 a.m. with multiple tees, perfect for beginners as well as pros.

Farewell, Farmville!

eating at macado's
