Farmville’s 2019 Heart of Virginia Festival is bigger and better! This year has new events and vendors and a new location for the 5K/10K race. Take a look and take your pick from the family-friendly schedule.
New this year:
Park it!
There’s a party going on at Riverside Park the Friday before festival day. Get your ducks in a row and head on down for the Duck Derby Race from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and then kick back for a night of good music by Den Dalton & Co., DJ Cruz and Kustom Made. The festival will partner with the Farmville Jaycees for this kick-off event sponsored by Farmville’s Bojangles. Food vendors and a beer truck will be on-site.
Race to the trail
Run the historic High Bridge Trail in this year’s Heart of Virginia 5K/10K Run/Walk. It’s a level, out-and-back course starting at High Bridge Plaza in Downtown Farmville at 8:30 a.m. May 4. Register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Farmville/HOV10K
Five things you won’t want to miss:
Start with art
Did you know the Heart of Virginia Festival started with Central Virginia Arts’ annual art show on the Longwood Colonnade lawn? Browse the booths in this year’s show and meet 35 local artists displaying photography, paintings, pottery, jewelry, blown glass, woodturnings and more.
Get Crafty
Looking for that special one-of-a-kind Mother’s Day gift? You’ll find it in the booths all along High and Main streets. Vendors open at 9 a.m.
Add some Audacity
Farmville’s Audacity Brass Band will headline this year’s festival music with its New Orleans, “new wave” style. But that’s not all — there’s music on the Crute Stage and other locations to keep you toe tapping through the day.
Kid’s play
Don’t forget to visit the Children’s Area on High Street for hands-on fun for all ages — everything from face painting to puppet shows.
Good taste
In the mood for fish and chips or funnel cakes? You’ll find food truck fare and fresh from-the-oven treats — something to satisfy every taste.
