Farmville welcomes newest additions to culinary scene

From barbecue to seafood, gourmet pizza, greasy diner fare and more, Longwood’s hometown of Farmville has no shortage of dining options. And with a student population that thrives on late-night coffee runs and lunchtime grab-and-gos, Farmville’s culinary scene is constantly evolving.

That means as students returned to campus this fall, not only did they have their old favorites to choose from, they also had a few new spots to explore: a new coffee shop, gourmet pizza restaurant, steakhouse, and ice cream bar, along with college-town favorite Chipotle, which is currently under construction.

All Abuzz: Poplar Sips

College towns can never have enough coffee shops. Poplar Sips, however, does more than just serve a good cup of joe — they roast their beans right here in Farmville for the freshest cup in town. Located within walking distance of campus on the north end of Farmville’s historic Main Street, Poplar Sips offers two signature blends and makes for a perfect study spot in the heart of downtown.

Other coffee shops: Longwood Bookstore, Uptown Coffee Cafe, Starbucks (on & off campus)

Superb Slices: The Fox and Lamb

The Fox and Lamb serves up artisanal, wood-fired pizzas in the heart of historic downtown. Those pies come in small and full-size versions of classics like cheese and pepperoni, as well as originals like Hot Honey Bacon and Charcuterie — perfect for lunch or dinner, or even a leftovers breakfast the morning after an all-nighter.

Other pizza joints: Pinos Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria

Sweet Treats: Dell’s Dairy Bar

Who doesn’t love a scoop of ice cream? Dell’s Dairy Bar offers more than a dozen scooped and soft-serve ice cream flavors, as well as milkshakes and signature creations to satisfy any Lancer’s sweet tooth. Located just one mile from campus, it’s a great place for a study break or a weekend treat with classmates.

Other dessert destinations: Cloud 9 Gelato, Spoonful of Buttercream, Waldy’s Ice Cream

Finer Fare: Seared Steakhouse (coming soon!)

Rendering

Currently under construction, Seared Steakhouse will offer a fine-dining experience perfect for a Family Weekend dinner or a celebratory end to exam week. With a menu featuring gourmet steaks, succulent sides and more, the locally owned restaurant will add even more class to Farmville’s well-established upscale dining scene.

Other fine-dining spots: Charley’s Waterfront Cafe, Taproot Tavern

Standby Favorite: Chipotle (coming soon!)

Longwood students (and faculty and staff!) rejoiced earlier this year when burrito chain Chipotle announced it would open a new location in Farmville. The minimalist-themed burrito bar is known for stuffing tortillas to the limit, limits that Lancers will be sure to push.

Other chain favorites: Chick-fil-A, Jersey Mike’s, Moe’s Southwest Grill
