In honor of Virginia State Parks History and Culture Weekend and in conjunction with Flag Day, the staff at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield invite you join us for this exciting historical program.
Fifty-four of the sixty-four Medal of Honor recipients dated April 6, 1865, were for captured flags. Join us as we examine a few different flags used during the American Civil War by both Union and Confederate armies, their purpose on the battlefield, and why they were so sought after as trophies during an engagement. What happened when a soldier captured one? Why were they so important? This lecture style program and PowerPoint will also investigate several of the stories related to the soldiers defending and capturing those flags at the Battles of Sailor’s Creek.
This program is FREE to the public and will take in the Visitor Center rain or shine. Please call (804) 561- 7510 for more information.
