Join the Department of Art as we welcome acclaimed artist Nathan Mullins to campus for a two-part event, including a talk and an exhibition opening reception.
- The Artist Talk will occur on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Bedford 111.
- The Exhibition Opening Reception will occur on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Bedford Gallery, following the conclusion of the artist talk.
More about Nathan Mullins
Nathan Mullins is, according to art critic Mark Jenkins, “almost a realist painter,” making small- to medium-scale oil paintings of domestic scenes, baseball players, lovers, landscapes and still lifes. The representational quality of these paintings rides the edge between naturalism and abstraction, relying on gestural mark-making rather than rendering, with a focus on color and light in the vein of Fairfield Porter.
His work has been featured in New American Paintings 142, vol 24 and has been shown both domestically and internationally in solo and group exhibitions, including two shows at Adah Rose Gallery, in 2022 and 2023, which were reviewed in The Washington Post; group exhibitions at Auxier Kline Gallery in New York City in 2023 and Wagner College on Staten Island in 2019, and a group show at the Vilnius Academy of Art in Lithuania in 2015.
