Join us for a guided tour of the Overton-Hillsman House (circa 1780) at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park to learn about everyday experiences during the 19th century. We’ll explore antebellum life before the Civil War and gain insights into what local residents heard and saw during the pivotal Sailor’s Creek battle which later led to Lee’s surrender at Appomattox.

Four Open House tours will be offered on the top of the hour at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and then again at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. From there, guests are encouraged to enjoy one of the many hiking trails throughout the park or learn more by taking the marked driving tour around the park. Trail guides and a driving tour map will be available.

Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park is located at 6541 Saylers Creek Road in Rice, VA. The Visitor’s Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily while the park itself closes at dusk. Each tour as well as parking is FREE, but pets are not allowed inside the Overton-Hillsman house. For more information, call (804) 561-7510.
