One of the greatest Civil Rights pioneers of the 20th century will be remembered on his birthday where he was born at the Overton/Hillsman House. Join us as we celebrate and remember his life, accomplishments, and accolades that still impact us today.
Young Robert was born on August 26, 1867, on the banks of Little Sailor’s Creek. He writes in his auto-biography, Finding a Way Out, that one of his earliest memories is of his father, Booker Moton, coming to retrieve him and his mother, Emily, and take them to Pleasant Shade a few miles further down Sailor’s Creek.
Park Historian Joshua Lindamood will share new discoveries and the latest research regarding the Moton’s at this special birthday celebration. You won’t want to miss this one!
