From a vantage point high above the Appomattox River’s floodplain, visitors can explore the cosmos from High Bridge with our local Crewe Astronomy Club. Members of this organization are friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with their time and access to their equipment. High Bridge Trail State Park is a day use park, so night programs are a special experience here. You might hear owls, frogs, or chattering insects filling the air around you with sound, and even smell the clean, damp earth below as you look deep into the universe that you are a part of.
Participants are asked to not use white lights, whether from flashlights or cell phones, to find their way on High Bridge. We suggest the use of red-colored filters on all personal lighting. The use of white lights can interrupt visitors’ nigh time vision. Parking access to High Bridge for this program will be from the Camp Paradise parking access only. Participants will then walk along the trail to the program on High Bridge. We hope to see you on the trail!
