A lot of us get pleasure from short strolls along the lakeside or in a wooded area, be it a quick vigorous exercise or meditative meander. If you have the desire to travel a bit further afield, come along on this ranger-led, 5-mile hike for teens and adults that will take us into the Cumberland State Forest and back. This is a good opportunity to investigate outdoor activities like backpacking, or simply to see more of our conserved area. We will travel at a relaxed pace but with intention.

The trek will be mostly over moderately level terrain with some steeper inclines and creek crossings. You will need to bring your own water and snacks. Suitable, closed-toe footwear is required.

Please email: bcguide@dcr.virginia.gov with any questions or concerns about how to prepare.

About National Trails Day

On the first Saturday of June, Virginia State Parks celebrates National Trails Day®, an annual event sponsored by the American Hiking Society encouraging outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels to explore hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Virginia’s 44 state parks offer guided hikes, trail maintenance workshops and volunteer opportunities to highlight trail stewardship and the importance of preserving trails for future generations.
