On Saturday, November 11, 2023, staff, volunteers, and period-dressed public historians will be hosting our 15th annual “Veterans Day Luminary” commemorative trail illumination.

This year rangers will lead three tours of visitors down an illuminated path where historical vignettes will be recreated by public historians describing the scenes from the Battles of Sailor’s Creek and its aftermath. We will feature all new vignettes this year as we head back in time to catch a glimpse of the battle that helped bring an end to the fighting in Virginia in 1865. Tours will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. and last approximately 35-45 minutes in length.

This program is FREE to the public. Close-toed shoes are recommended as terrain will vary. We ask that you come prepared for rapidly changing and unpredictable weather conditions. Portions of this event may be altered by changing weather conditions but the program will be held rain or shine. If you would like to Honor a Veteran with having their name, rank, and branch of service placed on a luminary, please contact sailorscreek@dcr.virginia.gov prior to the program.
