A Weekend of Fun with Your Dog in Farmville

In honor of National Pet Day, we are celebrating everyone’s favorite pet of all, dogs. Farmville is the perfect place to bring your dog. We have pet-friendly hotels like Hotel Weyanoke and plenty of trails, shops, and even breweries that are ideal for you AND your very best four-legged friend. Come have fun with your dog in Farmville.

With springtime putting an extra wag in everyone’s tail, why not make it a weekend for the dogs in beautiful Farmville? We will show you how below. Follow your paws, and your heart, to Farmville for this fun weekend with you dog.

Saturday, April 11- National Pet Day

11:00 a.m Paws for a Cause at Twin Lakes State Park

Spend the morning at beautiful Twin Lakes State Park with your pup at Paws for a Cause. You and your pup can get a free professional picture taken while enjoying delicious local food trucks. Don’t forget to take some time to enjoy the beautiful hiking trails as well! If all that makes you say “Woof!” this fun and big-hearted event is a can’t miss.

Local vendors such as Four Paw Bed and Biscuit, The Family Dog grooming salon, True Heart Kennel, and Bright Eyes Alpaca Farm will be on-site as well.

Enter your good boy in a pet beauty contest or enjoy demonstrations by trained rescue dogs.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Prince Edward County Animal Control and Morgan’s Mutts of Jetersville.

1:00 p.m Sniffin’ Around in Downtown Farmville

Head into the heart of historic downtown Farmville for some shopping. There’s no need to leave your dog behind. From lovingly-designed murals in front of Red Door 104 to Green Front Furniture, most shops and businesses love and welcome your pooch.

This pupper loves exploring Green Front Furniture.

This good girl is trying out the sofa before mom buys it.

We know you came prepared with plenty of extra water and food but many even have an extra water bowl or two outside so everyone stays hydrated. Grab the leash and get exploring.

2:00 p.m Trottin’ on the High Bridge Trail

Hit the trail for even more exercise. Enjoy beautiful views as you stroll along the always popular High Bridge Trail.

If you want a shorter walk to the bridge itself, consider driving to the River Road or Camp Paradise entrance and walking from there. Don’t forget to bring cash for parking!

4:00 p.m  Paws for a Pint at Three Roads Brewing Company

After such an active and adventurous day, both you and your dog will be ready to kick back and relax at Three Roads Brewing Company.

Their beer garden is a pet-lovers paradise. Grab one of their signature pints and order a delicious early dinner from a food truck. If you don’t spot a food truck, you can order from a wide variety of local restaurants through Way-Fast Delivery– including La Parota, Fishin’ Pig, Effingham’s and North Street Press Club. Just ask for more details inside. Three Roads Brewing also frequently features live music on Saturday evenings so get ready to tap your toes if you see a band start warming up.

6:00 p.m. Hittin’ the Hay at Hotel Weyanoke

This boutique hotel in the heart of Farmville is completely dog-friendly. You and your doggo will enjoy the spacious rooms, comfy beds, and soft robes after your long day of exploring Farmville.

Don’t forget to check out Effingham’s for breakfast before hitting the road back home (with the windows down of course).

We hope you’ve had the best time exploring Farmville with your dog. Farmville is perfect for pets of all shapes and sizes. Don’t wait till next National Pet Day to come see us again. We can’t wait to see you next time.
