Saturday, March 14

7:30 a.m. Run High Bridge 5K

Start your day with some friendly competition at the gorgeous High Bridge Trail State Park. Your out-and-back race will feature lovely views of the historic bridge under the new morning sun. You’ll also be helping to support local schools. Win-win! Find out more and sign up here.

8:30 a.m. Explore Below the Bridge

Before heading into Farmville for breakfast, don’t miss exploring the beautiful space below High Bridge. From the race’s start at Camp Paradise, a path will lead you down to the banks of the Appomattox where you can get up close and personal with the girders of the bridge itself. Enjoy a well deserved post-race snack by the river’s edge.

Fishing enthusiasts can rejoice because according to the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries it “boasts one of the best sportfish assemblages in the piedmont.” You can find more information on the type of fish stocked in the reservoir and how to access the public landings here.

Don’t have a canoe or kayak of your own? Nearby Sandy River Outdoor Adventures has them available for rent. Find out more here.
