Happy birthday, America! As the nation celebrates America’s 250th anniversary, this program explores how the American Civil War was deeply connected to the ideals of the American Revolution.
Join us as we examine how Union soldiers and leaders understood the war as a fight to preserve the nation founded in 1776, and how the conflict ultimately reshaped the meaning of liberty and freedom. Through the discussion of Revolutionary principles, Union motivations, and the war’s lasting impact, this program invites participants to consider the American Civil War as a defining test of America’s founding ideals.
This program will be held in the Visitor Center, rain or shine. For questions and more information, please contact Gracie Swartout at Gracie.Swartout@dcr.virginia.gov.
