Bring your family and join us for National Kids to Parks Day! This exciting event offers hands-on activities and engaging programs designed to connect kids with history, nature, and outdoor adventure.

Civil War Camp Life Experience (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.):
Step into the past and experience life as a Civil War soldier. Try your hand at setting up camp, learn how soldiers cooked meals, and discover how they survived during the final days of the Appomattox Campaign. Kids will love the interactive demonstrations of drill practice and artefact’s exploration.

Self-Guided Junior Ranger Program:
Become a Junior Ranger and earn your badge. Pick up a Junior Ranger booklet from the Visitor Center and embark on a self-guided adventure combining history and nature. Explore the trail to uncover fascinating facts about the park’s Civil War history and ecological wonders while completing fun, interactive activities.

About National Kids to Parks Day

Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
